The good news about an individual being depress is that he or she can be cure from this state of mind. Also, in addition to medication, literature reviews states an individual receiving therapy alone or combined with other therapies can be successful in the individual regaining his or her confidence in life. Additionally, Williamson (2008) stated, â€Å"Psychotherapies involving short-term, goal-oriented approaches aimed at specific interpersonal problems such as unresolved grief, role transitions, interpersonal role disputes, and interpersonal deficits, which may trigger depressive episodes, have become very effective antidepressant therapy, especially when combined with antidepressant drug therapy† (Pp. 24). While depression is favorably curable, some types of depression may not be avoidable. Thats because depression may be activated by a biological deficiency intellectually. Theories of Counseling This section of the paper will briefly discuss and explain in short the following theories of counseling: Cognitive Therapy (CT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). Cognitive therapy concentrates on thoughts and thinking patterns; CBT concentrates on the individual’s existing behavior, and interpersonal therapy concentrates on existing relationships. Education in America Essays - 801 Words

Education in America Education in the United States is a very crucial part of a person’s life. Going to school opens doors and facilitates the pathway for future individual achievement and economic success. Formal education is a conscious effort by human society to convey the skills and modes of thought considered essential for social functioning. According to the census 2000, the total number of people in school between nursery and high school is approximately 57 million. Out of those 57 million, roughly 49 million are in public school. In students 15 – 17 years old, 30.8 % are below the modal grade. Furthermore, between 10 through 12 graders the annual dropout rate is 4.7%. Continuing education to the college level is a very†¦show more content†¦Today, however, it seems as if the public has lost track of the importance of a great educational system. The main issue today’s public schools faces are funding problems. There is not enough money allocated to support the growing needs of school across the nation. Most of the other problems the schools face are directly related to the funding issue. Buildings are run down and sometimes mobile because of the lack of finances. No child wants to go to school in a dreary building that smells bad. It makes it hard to concentrate and hard to study in buildings such as this. Every school has some type of sport being played by the students. For some, sports are the only reason they do not drop out of school. However, if finances are not available then the school should focus mostly on the education of all of its students as a whole, not just a few who think they cannot make it without sports. Without the financial issues, schools have even more problems. School violence is becoming more and more common. School should be a place where children come to learn and be with their peers, in a very good environment. It should not be a place where children are afraid to go because of the anger or hurt of other children. This is probably the major issu e of the public today. A good man is hard to find the Essay Example For Students

A good man is hard to find the Essay A Good Man is Hard to Find: The Grandmothers Grace Flannery OConnors A Good Man is Hard to Find tells the metaphorical tale of a familys fatal confrontation with The Misfit, an escaped serial killer. The incidents and characters throughout the story are aspects of a plot intending to symbolize the spiritual grace passed from one human to another, without regard for kindness or evil. The prominent character in OConnors story is the grandmother, who embodies this grace. By including imperfections in the development of the grandmothers character, OConnor shows the indiscriminatory property of grace she possesses. The grandmother is the most developed character of the story. She contains several traits that coincide with the stereotypical elderly southern woman. Some of her notions are bizarre and trivial, and ignored by her family, such as the possible attack by The Misfit, a trip to Tennessee instead of Florida, and a fear of feline asphyxiation. John Wesley and June Star have little if any respect for their paternal grandmother. She has to go everywhere we go, whines June Star (194). The grandmother also dresses immaculately, even for a car trip, simply because in an accident anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady (194). She calls attention to pointless details such as mileage, the speed of the car, and scenic road-side attractions. Also typical, the grandmother holds a deep appreciation for incidents which are of no value to others, such as the beauty of the landscape, respect for elders, and courting rituals during her childhood. The character traits of the grandmother are in no way ideal. Not only is she random and frivolous, but she also demonstrates hypocrisy and manipulation. Arent you ashamed? she asks when June Star insults the owner of Red Sammys Barbecue (196), but experiences no personal shame at all in stating that Little niggers in the country dont have things like we do (195). The grandmother knows there is no secret compartment in the house she wishes to visit, yet she tells the children this compartment exists in order to convince Bailey into stopping. The familys inevitable demise originates when the grandmother sets them on the road to see this mysterious house, which begins the set-up for the spiritually symbolic interpretation of the story. Upon meeting The Misfit, communication is almost solely between The Misfit and the grandmother. The grandmother shrieks, Youre The Misfit!I recognized you at once to which The Misfit replies, It would have been better for all you of you, lady, if you hadnt of reckernized me (199). Without regard for her family, the grandmother thinks first of herself, crying, You wouldnt shoot a lady, would you? (199). As she converses with The Misfit, she learns of his decent parents and good up-bringing, and can therefore categorize him as a a good man despite the fact that he has killed innocent people. Throughout the conversation, despite the death of her family, the grandmother discovers The Misfit was arrested for a crime he might not have committed, and begins to interrogate him on his spiritual practices. She asks him if he prays and advises prayer as a method for his salvation. Near this point in the story the feeling of the conversation turns from the grandmother attempting to save her own life to a genuine interest in the man before her. As her family members are killed one by one, they become less important to the story which becomes intensely focused on the interaction between The Misfit and the grandmother. The grandmother learns that The Misfit does not fit into her mold of an ideal Christian. .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .postImageUrl , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:hover , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:visited , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:active { border:0!important; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:active , .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4 .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub1b9bcff947eb7e2d68e5e8d2dafe6d4:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Chemistry planning and designing lab Essay He does not pray, and he is also confused in his own personal beliefs. French Canadians in NE essays

French Canadians in NE essays The French have a lengthy history on this continent. The French became interested in the "New World" in 1524 when King Francois I sought wealth for his European domain (Brown 19). Expeditions were underwritten by the crown. It was eager to compete with other European powers in search for riches. Included in the early voyages were trips by Frenchman Jacques Cartier. Cartier discovered the Gulf of St. Lawrence in 1534 (Brown 21). He made further excursions toward the heartland of the continent, resulting in vast land claims. Another early visitor to America, Samuel de Champlain, organized colonies on the mouth of the St. Croix River in 1604 and at the present site of Quebec City in 1608 (Brown 78). France quickly spread its influence from Quebec to New Orleans. Though sparsely populated, the land that France claimed was astounding in size. While the English colonies were developing along a strip of the east coast no wider than 210 miles, the French laid claim to much of the territory b etween the colonies and the Mississippi. Trappers, traders, and explorers during the 17th and 18th centuries, the French were present in the new land. The intent of French exploration was the search for riches; gold and silver. However, failing to produce such wealth, France settled for revenues from the fur trade. Although the search for riches was the initial goal of the French in the new world, the main intent became to spread the Catholic faith. In 1642, French missionaries contributed to the founding of Montreal (Brown 72). In the following years the missionaries would spread like wildfire. The devout Catholicism is evident in American French communities even today. King Louis XIV made Canada a royal province in 1663 (Brow The French have a lengthy history on this continent. Barriers and facilitators in collaboration with consumers and carers Essay

Barriers and facilitators in collaboration with consumers and carers - Essay Example The reason for failure of comprehensive health care being administered was that there is a lacking of well-trained mental health care staff and certain infrastructure not being in place making it difficult to provide quality care (Sundararamann, 2009). The Journal of the American Medical Association, which features a study carried out by the Centre for Disease Control lists tobacco, poor nutrition, excess alcohol consumption and infections as the main predisposing factors that result in death. This implies that focus should be on administering health care primarily in the form of educating the public as opposed to focusing on heart diseases, cancer and stroke, as has been the case. America has the largest budget on health care making it perceivable as the best in health care administration; however, this is not the case as the budget goes to medical care instead where the best medical facilities in form of research centres and medical schools have been set up. It thus becomes imperat ive to create a distinction between medical care and health care where the former is characterized by use of new technologies and the latter is centred on administration of quality care. In America this is evidenced by the fact that it has a higher infant mortality rate compared to England and France and similarly a shorter life span compared to Japan (Schimpff, 2012). In dealing with this problem of non-comprehensive mental health care administration, a mulch disciplinary team has become the solution where medical specialists from various fields are assembled to design a system that will facilitate quality health care administration. This is because a mulch disciplinary approach has been proven to achieve the best results when solving complex social problems such as childhood obesity. It follows a system of design thinking, which is defined as a novel, empirical, human centred, investigative approach to innovation aimed at providing innovative solutions not just to social organizat ions but businesses as well. It involves bringing together psychologists, anthropologists and other specialists to work collaboratively to design a system that solves a social problem in terms of administration of quality care. In most cases, consumers are also included in the designing in order to ensure the solution arrived at is agreeable. Its popularity arises from the fact that various skills, mind-sets and processes that have been gathered due to experience and cannot be taught in schools, are combined (Innovation design thinking, n.d). Mental health care refers to a broad range of services that vary from marital or family counselling to more specialized treatments for illnesses such as bipolar. It also encompasses mental disorders alluded to certain age groups for instance Alzheimer’s in old people and Attention Deficit Disorder in children, along with postpartum depression in middle-aged people. When administering mental health care, the services would include counsel ling, prescribing medications, inpatient care and outpatient care. There has been a shift in attention to medical health care following incidences such as the Virginia Tech shooting, leading the Congress to set out to transform the mental health care system; more so, because there was an outcry by the public regarding its adequacy. In 2008, following the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, health insurers that choose to cover

Historical Vacation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Historical Vacation - Essay Example The first Historical event that I would visit on my Vacation would be to Witness the Events Surrounding the Purchase of Louisiana One of the first stops we made on our historical vacation was to stop by the year 1803. On arriving in 1803, we found that General Napoleon had just managed to conquer France and subsequently confiscate Louisiana. General napoleon came to pay President Jefferson a visit at which he informed Jefferson that as his military forces and machines were in urgent need for cash, he wanted to sell Louisiana to America. President Jefferson thought that this was a very good opportunity for the country as it would serve to help in providing more land for the country’s fast expanding population. The Louisiana territory was relatively large and Jefferson managed to negotiate a deal in which he managed to purchase the entire territory for a total amounting to $15 million, this essentially worked out to about 3 cents an acre (Goldberg 26-31). The Ending of Slave Tra de in the United After our brief vocational tour of the United Sates in 1803, my teacher suggested that the next important time for us to visit would be 1807 so as to be able to witness all the first hand events that would eventually lead to the complete abolition of slave trade in the United States. On arriving in this particular time period, my teacher informed me that in this year, the United States Constitution had a key element that required that slave trade be ended by the year 1808. In the year 1807 the country’s congress was seen to comply with the Act Prohibiting any importation of slaves into the country in the 1807 (Goldwin and Kaufman 10). This act essentially went into effect the next year and was posed to greatly revolutionize the lives of the African American slaves in the country who had been greatly suffering from a myriad effects of slavery. Most of the country’s main founding fathers were seen to hope that by passing the act, they would be able to ef fectively abolish all form of slavery in the country and hence manage to usher the entire country into the long awaited freedom whereby it would not experience any form of slavery. However, the nation’s founding fathers were not to see their objective fully achieved as although there was a legal cessation in the general importation of new slaves into the country, the number of African American in the country was seen to not decline as the United States’ native born African American population were seen to be quite self sustaining and continued to greatly multiply. The institution of slavery was also seen to be greatly prompted by the expansion of the cotton gin, an aspect that was seen to provide numerous incentives that saw the development of a situation where although slavery was legally abolished in the entire country, numerous African Americans were seen to continue working in slave like conditions just so as to be able to make a sufficient living. The California G old Rush My third historical vacation would be to travel through to the year 1848 to the day that gold was found by Marshall James in the county as he managed a work crew that was working on building him a mill. While the project was ongoing, Marshall was able to find a few gold nuggets an event that essentially heralded the start of the of the California gold rush. This event was to quickly become one of the largest ever cases of
